This study was performed to obtain the basic informations for Chinese cabbage breedins. The inheritance of length, width, thickness, area and fresh weight of leaf midrib characters which seemed to determine quality of Chinese cabbage and their inter-relationships were studied is a five-parent dialled cross. The results obtained mere summarized as follows:
1) As the results of analysis of variance, tire significances among the F₁s were observed in all the characters. The width, area, weight in F₁ here significantly higher than the parent.
2) The varied degrees and directions of heterosis and heterobeltiosis were observed according to hybrid combinations. On overall mean basis width, thickness, area and weight were positive in heterosis and width only was positive in heterobeltiosis.
3) In F₁ all outer midrib characters except width shoved the significantly punitive correlations among their characters.
4) Partial dominance for length. thickness, area and weight were observed and width showed over-dominance.
5) The direction of dominance was positive for all other characters except length.
6) At least one effective for thickness, one to two for area and three for length, width and weight were detected.
7) Habitability estimates in broad and narrow sense were high for all the characters. Narrow sense habitability for width, however, was very low.
